Note: Subspecies of buckthorn plant found in Mediterranean European countries. The berries historically have been used as medicine and to produce a yellow-green dye; in export it was often named for a French origin. In some classifications, R.infectoria is considered a synonym of R.saxatilis rather than a subspecies; in other classifications, it has been considered a separate species.

Additional Notes:
Dutch ..... Ondersoort van de vuilbomen die voorkomt in Europese landen aan de Middellandse Zee. De bessen van deze struik werden in het verleden gebruikt als medicijn en voor de productie van een geelgroene kleurstof; in de export werd het vaak vernoemd naar een Franse plaats van oorsprong. In sommige classificaties geldt R. infectoria als synoniem voor R. saxatilis in plaats van een ondersoort, in andere classificaties als een aparte soort.
