Note: Refers to a type of dagger-axe, or halberd, used for display by Shang elite in Bronze Age China. They are single- or double-edged blades with short hafts, though length, shape, and motif varied and evolved over time. Many bronze ge were functional weapons, while later examples are ground from materials such as nephrite and are presumed to be purely ceremonial. Bronze ge may have been among the first objects created in Chinese foundries. |

Dutch ..... Een soort bijl-dolk of hellebaard die door de Chinese Shang-elite in de bronstijd voor het vertoon werd gedragen. Het waren enkel- of dubbelzijdige snijwapens met een kort heft; hun lengte, vorm en decoratieve motief liepen uiteen en ontwikkelden zich door de tijd heen. Veel bronzen ge waren daadwerkelijk functionele wapens, maar latere exemplaren zijn gemaakt van materialen als nefriet en waren vermoedelijk enkel ceremonieel. Bronzen ge waren wellicht een van de eerste soorten objecten die in Chinese smelterijen werden gemaakt. |
