Note: A technique of elemental analysis in which a small area on a surface is bombarded with charged particles (non-electrons, usually protons) to produce fluorescent X-rays specific to an element. The method is used in conservation science, archaeology, and geology to obtain an elemental map which may guide research regarding dating, provenance and authenticity. |

Een techniek van elementenanalyse waarbij een klein gebied op een oppervlak wordt gebombardeerd met geladen deeltjes (maar geen elektronen; meestal protonen) om fluorescerende röntgenstralen te produceren die specifiek bij een element horen. De methode wordt gebruikt in de conserveringswetenschap, archeologie en geologie om een elementenkaart te verkrijgen die kan worden geraadpleegd bij onderzoek naar datering, herkomst en authenticiteit. |
