Note: Refers to the work of a school of painters, originating in the 9th century and surviving into the 15th century. One of the earliest and longest lived, the school played a central role in transforming the style imported from China during the 7th and 8th century, into the classical Hein period style known as "Yamato-e." Founded by Kose No Kanaoka, the style evolved from typical Chinese subject matter such as Confusius, to more secular Japanese images, such as animals and landscapes.

Chinese (traditional) ..... 指源自九世紀,存續至十五世紀的畫派,為早期畫派中相當久遠的一派。創始人為巨勢金岡(Kose No Kamaoka),將七至八世紀間引入的中國風格,轉型為平安時代的「大和繪」風格。此畫派的風格由孔子等典型的中國題材,轉換為動物與風景等較世俗的日本形象。 
Dutch ..... Verwijst naar het werk van een school van schilders die ontstond in de 9de eeuw en heeft bestaan tot in de 15de eeuw. Dit is een van de vroegste en langst bestaande scholen en deze schilders hebben dan ook een centrale rol gespeeld in het transformeren van de stijl die tijdens de 7de en 8ste eeuw uit China was geïmporteerd, in de klassieke stijl van de Hein-periode die bekend is onder de naam 'Yamato-e'. De school was opgericht door Kose No Kanaoka en de stijl ontwikkelde zich van typisch Chinese onderwerpen, zoals Confucius, naar meer wereldlijke Japanse afbeeldingen, zoals dieren en landschappen.
