Note: Refers to the satirical movement that developed in German painting in the early 1920s and continued until the rise of National Socialism in the 1930s. Reacting to the violence of World War I, the style is characterized by a rejection of Expressionism and an emphasis on close observation of objects; social criticism; cold, static, figures; and sometimes naive styles.

Verwijst naar de satirische stroming die zich in de vroege jaren 20 van de 20ste eeuw in de Duitse schilderkunst ontwikkelde en die verdween met de opkomst van het nationaal-socialisme in de jaren 30. De stroming was een reactie op het geweld van de Eerste Wereldoorlog, en de stijl kenmerkt zich door de afwijzing van het expressionisme en de nadruk die werd gelegd op de nauwgezette bestudering van voorwerpen. Voorts door de sociale kritiek, de kille, statische figuren en de soms naïeve stijlen. |
