Makom I and Makom II: On the Boundaries of Sculpture, Architecture, and Archaeology (lecture)

Michal Rovner discusses her recent projects, which create a crossover between sculpture, architecture, and archaeology. Using stones remaining of old Israeli and Arabic houses, Rovner makes precise cubic constructions weighing up to 60 tons. The constructions undergo changes as their geographical contexts shift.

About Michal Rovner
Michal Rovner lives and works in Israel and New York City. Her work in video and film, as well as on paper, has been the subject of over forty solo exhibitions, and has been shown at the Jeu de Paume in Paris, PaceWildenstein in New York, at the Venice Biennale, and at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York. Her site-specific video installations can be seen at Yad Vashem, Jerusalem, Chase Manhattan Bank on Park Avenue in New York City, and at the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam. Her work is held in the permanent collections of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Museum of Modern Art, The Guggenheim Museum, and The Whitney Museum of American Art in New York; The Art Institute of Chicago; The Los Angeles County Museum of Art; The Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris; The Jewish Museum, New York; and many more. Her films have been screened at numerous museums and international venues as well.
