German Paintings from Dresden (Works-in-Dialogue)

Date: Wednesday, December 13, 2006
Time: 1:00–3:00 p.m.
Location: Getty Center, Museum Lecture Hall and Museum galleries
Course Fee: $20. Open to 100 participants.

This afternoon course combines a lecture with gallery tours focusing on masterpieces of German painting in From Caspar David Friedrich to Gerhard Richter: German Paintings from Dresden.

In a lecture by Jon Seydl, associate curator of paintings, J. Paul Getty Museum, you will learn more about the themes in this exhibition, which juxtaposes landscapes by two titans of German painting, Caspar David Friedrich (1774–1840) and Gerhard Richter (born 1932), and presents 13 German paintings from the Galerie Neue Meister in Dresden in the permanent galleries alongside paintings from the Getty Museum's collection. In the gallery tours that follow, you will explore these paintings first-hand through close looking and discussion.
