Trouble Working Offsite?

Here is a response to some of your most common technical questions as the Getty switches over to working remotely: Working Offsite Troubleshooting. Still have questions? For anything tech support related (i.e. can't connect, applications not working), contact gettydigitalhelp@getty.edu. For help on how to best use an application or how to complete a task within an application, contact gettydigitaltraining@getty.edu. We look forward to continuing to support you through this transition period.

Zoom

Getty staff are now using Zoom to video and audio conference for the first time. To help you quickly acclimate to a potentially new tool, Getty Digital put together some tips for troubleshooting and best practices when using Zoom, attached. Also, we have turned on the "Enable join before host" option for every zoom account. This will allow participants to join meetings without the need for the host to start the meeting. This gives you the freedom to schedule meetings and not necessarily need to be a part of the meeting. If you prefer this option to be turned off for your meetings, you can simply sign into your Zoom account at https://zoom.us/signin and turn it off in your Profile Settings.

Don't Fall for Fake Emails about COVID-19

Unfortunately, phishing scams are on the rise along with the virus. Hackers are sending malicious e-mail seemingly from trusted sources, such as the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO), or they are doctoring e-mail messages to appear to be internal, according to cybersecurity firms monitoring the attempts.

Security Tips:

  • Scrutinize the e-mail sender. Some phishing e-mail has come from "cdc-gov.org," rather than "cdc.gov." Likewise, all legitimate e-mail from WHO will come from addresses with the domain name "who.int." You can also hover your mouse over links to see where they lead, even if the e-mail appears to be from the right address. Remember that even legitimate e-mail can be compromised.
  • Don't click links. Instead, try retyping the address in a browser window.
  • Be careful with attachments, especially if you don't recognize the sender or the e-mail appears suspicious.
  • Don't open unsolicited e-mail from people you don't know.
  • Be aware that spelling and grammatical mistakes can be red flags.
  • Be wary of generic greetings, such as "Dear Sir."
  • Avoid e-mail that demands immediate action.
  • Beware of requests for your personal information, passwords or login credentials.

#workingathomewithkids

The COVID-19 pandemic has created unique challenges for families with school-age children at home, while parents strive to maintain their work-related responsibilities. Many schools have provided distance-learning programs and resources to help students continue their education. For parents looking for extra information, activities, programs, and social-emotional learning (SEL) resources, Getty created a Slack channel #workingathomewithkids, where resources can be shared and we can support each other through this unique time.

Graduate and Getty Marrow Internships

Foundation staff have been taking steps to ensure continuity in Getty's two main internship programs. Current graduate interns were offered the option to return to their home cities and telecommute while Getty staff work remotely, and Foundation staff are moving forward with next year's class that starts in September 2020. Likewise for the Getty Marrow Internship program, Foundation staff are continuing regular activities of awarding grants to individuals for positions at the Getty and to cultural organizations for positions across L.A. County. There is strong consensus that the program should continue, even if adjustments in timing or format may become necessary as the COVID-19 crisis unfolds. Regular updates will be provided in advance for any changes to the program schedule or structure, and Getty staff are encouraged to speak to program representatives in the Foundation (Miguel de Baca for Graduate Interns and Julie Butash for Undergraduate Interns) with any questions.

Stay well! Remember that new information will be posted on getty.edu/staff. Continue to address any questions to internalcommunications@getty.edu or call or email Human Resources at 310.440.6523 or hr@getty.edu if you have unique issues with which you need help.
