WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Flu Shots: On Campus

Flu shots originally scheduled for October 6 and 7 are being rescheduled. Updated dates, times, and more details will be shared next week.

Flu Shots: Off-Campus

As a reminder, if you have Getty health insurance and you are not regularly scheduled to work on site on the dates noted above, you can get a free flu shot from your primary care doctor or at your local in-network pharmacy, e.g. Walgreen’s, CVS, Rite Aid. If you have any questions, please contact the member services phone number on the back of your insurance card.

JONES Team Listening Forums

The last two September Listening Forums have been rescheduled. The new dates are October 5, 12, and 13. You can sign up for those sessions here. Staff who were signed up for the rescheduled September sessions have been notified, and given preference for the new dates, but the sessions are also open to staff who have not yet signed up. The Listening Forums are designed to give staff the opportunity to learn more about the impact of systemic racism and join in a heartfelt discussion of the issues and actions sparked by the murder of Black people by police. You will receive a confirmation email and Outlook appointment from DEIworkshops@getty.edu when you are confirmed for a particular workshop.

Fitness Center Survey

As a reminder, The Getty Fitness Center staff is surveying staff about virtual program offerings in order to best serve your needs while you are working from home. This anonymous survey will help determine the types of exercise classes and other programs that would best support your fitness and wellness during this time. The last day to complete the survey is Friday, October 2.

Beginning on September 28, all virtual group exercise classes will require a passcode in order for eligible Getty employees to participate. The current schedule (including the password) is posted on www.gettyhr.com. Coming soon: new classes and an updated schedule! Please contact fitnesscenter@getty.edu for questions and more information.

REMINDER: DEI Feedback Sessions This Week

Staff members who would like to share their feedback on the DEI Plan discussed at the September 15 All-Staff Update may do so in two upcoming Zoom sessions. Participants can talk through their thoughts about the plan, such as how goals could be refined and prioritized and how to measure success. Senior leadership and Trustees will be on the call to hear the feedback. The sessions will be on Wednesday, September 30, at 9 a.m. PST, and Thursday, October 1, at 9 a.m. PST. See attached for Zoom and dial-in information.

NEWS

Support for Black, Latinx, Asian, and Indigenous Arts Orgs

Sixteen major donors and foundations, including Getty, announced a commitment to a two-pronged national and regional initiative to recognize America’s Cultural Treasures. Together, the funders will grant more than $156 million to support Black, Latinx, Asian, and Indigenous arts organizations in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic that has devastated America’s arts and culture landscape. The funding includes $85 million from the proceeds of the Ford Foundation’s historic social bond offering announced earlier this year. The foundations identified grant recipients as “America’s Cultural Treasures” to acknowledge and honor their vital contributions to the diversity of expression and excellence in America, and to bring greater recognition to a group of organizations that have made an impact despite historically limited resources and funding streams. STAFF SPOTLIGHT

Creativity Begins at Home

While spending more time at home, staff have discovered fascinating ways to entertain themselves and give back to their communities. To share how you’ve been passing the time, email internalcommunications@getty.edu.

  • Brian Burchfield, Docent I am part of a Classic Film Club with some of my fellow Getty Docents. Each week we watch the same film and then discuss our thoughts about what we watched. Everything from the style of filmmaking, facts about the cast, to the artwork on the walls. Our Film Club members notice very intriguing details which bring about thought-provoking conversations. I often do an oil painting based on the film we watched. This is one I recently created after watching James Dean in “Rebel Without a Cause” (attached).
