WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Onsite COVID-19 Testing Continues

We have been fortunate that with over 2,100 results, we’ve only had two positive tests of individuals working on our sites. That was back in the first week and those people were able to immediately isolate to prevent spread at Getty. Therefore, beginning Monday, October 5, we will test every 14 days, rather than every seven days. You will continue to be notified of your test schedule the same way as before and additions/changes to onsite schedules need to continue to be shared with Security and reservations@getty.edu. If you have been tested, you may continue to use the same QR code that you received after registering the first time. (Hint: If you have a smartphone, you may save the QR code to your photos.) Please see the attached for more details and the schedule.

Free Flu Shots at Getty Center and Getty Villa

Free flu shots at Getty Center and Getty Villa, administered by Rite Aid, will be provided for Getty, Uniserve, and Bon Appetit staff who are regularly scheduled to work on site on the dates below. If you would like to receive a flu shot, please notify your supervisor to schedule a time.

Getty Center, GRI Lecture Hall
Tuesday, October 13, 9 a.m.–4 p.m.
Wednesday, October 21, 9 a.m.–4 p.m.

Getty Villa, VN 111/112
Wednesday, October 14, 10 a.m.–3 p.m.
Tuesday, October 20, 10 a.m.–3 p.m.

If you are enrolled in Getty health insurance, please bring your member ID card for UnitedHealthcare or Aetna at the time of your flu shot. If you are not enrolled in Getty health insurance, you will still be able to receive your shot at no cost.

Masks must be worn at all times. Please maintain a distance of at least six feet from others, and do not arrive in groups with your colleagues. If you have questions, contact Human Resources at HR@getty.edu or 310-440-6523.

Final Week for MSA’s Gift Card Incentive

Getty’s financial wellness partner, MSA, is offering an incentive for Getty staff to engage in its free services. You will be entered to win a $100 Amazon gift card for taking any or all of the following actions by October 9:

  • Create a budget in MSA’s Wallet (one raffle entry)
  • Take the online Financial Assessment (one entry)
  • Complete a Money Coaching session (two raffle entries)

Visit Getty’s MSA website to get started. If you have any questions, contact Human Resources at HR@getty.com or 310-440-6523.

DEI Council Seeking New Members

As the work of the Council continues to grow, and with the recent departure of two Getty colleagues who were serving on the Council, the Council has decided to add four seats to its current membership. (The list of current members may be found on GO, under Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion.) Please read the attached for detailed information regarding nominations. Deadline to apply is October 12.

Library Curbside Service

The next Getty Library Curbside Service will be October 27–29. Please submit your requests for library items via the Library Catalog through October 14. Please see the attached PDF for instructions and FAQ about requesting library materials for this curbside service.

“Squatober” Fitness Challenge

The Fitness Center invites eligible Getty employees to join "Squatober,” the terrifyingly fun new fitness challenge. On October 12-30, we will be sending out three workouts a week that will light your legs up like a jack-o-lantern. We will provide options and modifications to meet every fitness level (so it won't be scary). Lisa and Karl are available for free one-on-one Zoom training sessions or email consultations (by appointment) for staff who need assistance. To sign up, email fitnesscenter@getty.edu. See the attached flyer.

NEWS

Getty and Amplifier Call for Teen Art

The Getty Museum and nonprofit design lab Amplifier have partnered on an open call for art from students ages 13-19 on the theme of “In Pursuit of__.” Teens are invited to answer the question “What are you in pursuit of?” They can participate in a free, short photography course, and then submit their own powerful artwork using photos and text. Members of the public can register to see the artwork and vote on their favorites. The top 10 will be included in an Amplifier projection series in cities nationwide, and distributed via the Getty Museum’s social media and education, digital, and exhibition platforms. Check out the instructional video, accompanying lesson plans, and submission page and find out more about the theme.

Alfredo Boulton Archive Acquisition

The GRI has acquired the archive of photographer Alfredo Boulton, who was a champion of modern art in Latin America and a key intellectual in 20th-century Venezuela. An art critic, art historian, and photographer, he wrote more than 60 publications on the art and historiography of his country. At the same time, he was a pioneer of modern photography, generating through his images a new cultural definition of Venezuela. The archive contains his extensive correspondence with local and international artists, institutions, intellectuals, and collectors; his writings for magazines and newspapers; his research materials on pre-Hispanic art, colonial art, the iconography of independence leaders, and modern artists; and a complete vintage collection of his photographic production. Learn more about the acquisition on the Iris.

STAFF SPOTLIGHT

Creativity Begins at Home

While spending more time at home, staff have discovered fascinating ways to entertain themselves and give back to their communities. To share how you’ve been passing the time, email internalcommunications@getty.edu.

  • Jeannette Bloom, Docent: “I have dabbled in ancestry research for a long time but have ramped up my time spent on it during the COVID crisis. In so doing I discovered that I am directly descended from Peregrine White, who was born on the Mayflower on November 20, 1620, in Cape Cod Harbor, Massachusetts. He was the firstborn English child in New England and his father, William White, was the 11th signer of the Mayflower Compact. I am presently applying to the Mayflower Society for official recognition of my lineage.”
  • Jamie Dunn, Buyer Assistant, Museum Store: “I was inspired this week to dig out my crochet hooks and create something to wear to a political walkathon I am participating in.” (See photo)
