Virtual Fall Wellness Fair TODAY

The Virtual Wellness Fair is today, October 26, 9 a.m.–3:30 p.m. Join live Zoom sessions scheduled throughout the day with our medical and dental carriers to get a brief plan overview and answer your general questions via the chat feature in Zoom. Getty Human Resources will also be holding two sessions to answer your questions and highlight benefit resources. Please see the attached flyer for the detailed schedule and Zoom link. As a reminder, Open Enrollment began Monday, October 19, and ends on Friday, November 6.

Separately, Jim and Steve will begin inviting staff members from throughout the Trust to virtual group “coffees” to discuss their work with colleagues across Getty. We thank the staff who have made the suggestions for these gatherings during the DEI feedback process.

Employee Race/Ethnicity Identity

Now there is an easier way for employees to ensure Getty’s records reflect the race/ethnicity with which they identify. The categories in the new Employee Self Service include changes made by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) to the race/ethnicity categories. The changes divide “Asian or Pacific Islander” into “Asian” and “Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander,” and add “Two or More Races,” for non-Hispanics who identify with more than one race.

Although providing this information is voluntary, we want our records to reflect your individual choices regarding self-identification. The information obtained will be kept confidential and only be used for sharing statistics with Getty staff and in accordance with laws that require the information to be summarized and reported to the federal government for civil rights enforcement. Race and ethnicity designations, as used by the EEOC, do not denote scientific definitions of anthropological origins.

To verify and/or change your information: log into Employee Self Service; select the Personal Details tile; select the Ethnic Groups tile; click on the arrow on the Ethnic Group box. If you wish to make a change, click on the spyglass, which will bring up the list of Ethnic Groups as defined by the EEOC. Select the one with which you identify and then submit.

We are also working on supporting staff who wish to choose a gender other than male or female. This is more complex than we had hoped. Please know that we are working diligently on this and will let staff know when we have a solution.

JONES Team Facilitating Unconscious Bias Workshops in November

As Getty continues to offer these workshops, we encourage all employees to participate, if you have not already done so. Although these sessions are virtual, the material and learning are the same as those we offered in-person, before the coronavirus forced most staff to stay home. Register here for an upcoming session. You will receive a confirmation email and Outlook appointment from DEIworkshops@getty.edu shortly before the workshop for which you are confirmed. Questions may also be sent to DEI workshops.

New Fitness Center Classes and Webinar

Effective Monday, October 26, the Fitness Center will be offering three new classes to the virtual class schedule. Tuesday and Thursday mornings start with “Rise and Flex,” Thursday afternoon is “The Art of Core Reformation,” and three 15-minute stretch and relax sessions will be offered via “Express Stretch and Refresh” on Monday, Thursday, and Friday. Please refer to the updated class schedule for descriptions and times, available on Getty HR and on GO. As a reminder, classes on Zoom will require the passcode “GettyFit” (case sensitive). In addition, the Fitness Center will be hosting a “What’s What” 30-minute webinar on Wednesday, October 28, from 11-11:30 a.m. We will discuss how sugar consumption can affect your health and how to minimize the sugar you eat. Please email the Fitness Center to RSVP or if you have any questions.

Library Curbside Service in November

Next month’s Getty Library Curbside Service is November 17-19. All requests for library items made from October 15 through November 4 will be available for the November curbside service. Please see the attached Curbside Service instructions for November 2020 and FAQ about requesting library materials.

Non-Exempt Staff Working on DEI Task Forces or Council

We’ve received questions from some non-exempt employees working on DEI about how they should complete their time cards. DEI activities are reported as hours worked, and should be reported for the actual hours and dates during which you worked, even if they were not during your regularly scheduled shift. If you worked time in the past that you did not report on your timecard, please contact Human Resources at 310-440-6523 or hr@getty.edu.

NEWS

Google Arts & Culture Pride Month Exhibition

In honor of LGBT History Month this October, curatorial staff from across the Getty reflected on the colors of the rainbow flag through works in our collections for a Google Arts & Culture exhibition. Pride at the Getty, a Museum/GRI collaboration, was derived from social posts and a blog post published in June, and includes a few new works, including Frank Israel’s architecture and photographs by Anthony Barboza. Getty Marrow Internship Impact Report

Getty Foundation has released the first major report on the impact of its long-running Getty Marrow Undergraduate Internship Program, showing that it successfully influences individuals from underrepresented backgrounds to pursue careers in art museums and visual arts organizations and inspires a lasting interest in the arts. Created in the wake of the beating of Rodney King and the resulting civil unrest in 1992 that brought widespread visibility to deep-seated inequities in Los Angeles, the Getty Marrow program (originally known as the Multicultural Undergraduate Internship program) was developed by then-Getty Foundation director Deborah Marrow, after whom it is now named. At the time, there were no internship programs in the visual arts at such a scale that offered similar opportunities to students from underrepresented groups. Discover the key findings of the survey on the Iris.

EVENTS

Political Advertisement X: 1952–2020

For 35 years, artists Antoni Muntadas and Marshall Reese have collected presidential campaign television ads. Every election year, they release their updated anthology. Played in chronological order and without commentary, the ads become a chorus of the nation's patriotism, partisanship, and fear. Their latest iteration, Political Advertisement X: 1952–2020 will make its North American debut on October 23–27, available as a limited-run online screening event. On Monday, October 26, at 5 p.m., join the artists in conversation with Tanya Zimbardo, assistant curator of media arts at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Register for access to the screening and conversation.

Join a Getty Underground Guided Zoom Tour

Find out for yourself why Emergency Preparedness Specialist Les Borsay said this about the (GU) Getty Underground 2020 Vision virtual staff exhibition:

“This [GU committee] team has put on the BEST GUs yet, perhaps one of the best Getty exhibits yet...”

Last scheduled tour is Wednesday, October 28, at noon. GU tours are about 20-30 minutes and limited to 20 people so sign up now. Based on interest, tours will continue to be scheduled during the run of the show. Email for more information.

STAFF SPOTLIGHT

Creativity Begins at Home

While spending more time at home, staff have discovered fascinating ways to entertain themselves and give back to their communities. To share how you’ve been passing the time, email internalcommunications@getty.edu.

  • Amanda Maclean, Admin. Assistant, Getty Museum: "As my feelings of anxiety surrounding the upcoming election grew more overwhelming, I decided to spring into action and get involved; this election will be my first time serving as a poll worker! After going through approximately eight hours of training and passing the required exam, I am ready to work my 22-hour early-voting assignment in the vote center just a couple of blocks from my house. There are many ways to vote this time ‘round, including by mail, curbside at voting centers, and at drop boxes. The state is sending all California residents a vote-by-mail ballot; anyone who doesn’t receive one in the mail in time (the United States Postal Service is experiencing delays these days) should just go into any vote center in his or her county of residence and vote there. Additionally, California offers same-day voter registration, so not being registered before Election Day shouldn’t deter anyone from voting. I encourage everyone to go to lavote.net for more information."
