WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Onsite COVID-19 Vaccines

In partnership with Los Angeles County, Getty is offering free onsite COVID-19 vaccines for all staff, docents, volunteers, and contract staff, even if they are not regularly scheduled to be on site, as well as their family members age 12 and older. Pfizer vaccines will be provided at the Getty Center on Monday, June 7, beginning at 8 a.m., with a second dose on June 28. In order to ensure we have enough vaccine, please complete this Survey Monkey to indicate your interest. We will contact you to set up an appointment for the vaccine. (If you have already taken the survey, you don’t need to take it again.)

Automatic Annual Increases to Your 403(b) Retirement Savings

If you are currently contributing less than 10% of your pay to the Employee Investment Plan (EIP), your pre-tax contribution will now automatically increase by 1% each year, until you reach 10%. Vanguard is sending a letter to notify everyone who qualifies for this automatic increase. If you prefer not to increase your savings, you may opt out at any time by calling Vanguard at 800-523-1188. This automatic increase only applies to non-Roth contributions. Participants who are contributing a flat dollar amount to the EIP will not be affected. Unless you opt out by June 22, you will see the increased retirement deduction beginning with your July 2, 2021 paycheck. Saving just a little bit more today can have a powerful impact on your future in retirement!

New Electric Vehicle Chargers

Additional electric vehicle chargers have been installed on the P2 and P4 levels of the Top of Hill Parking garage at the Getty Center. The new equipment, along with the existing equipment on P3, brings our TOH total to 49 chargers, including 3 ADA-EV chargers for electric vehicle drivers who have accessible parking requirements. We are currently in the process of installing many new EV chargers in the Main Parking garage on the P5, P6, and P7 levels. New EV chargers will also be installed at the Getty Villa in the South Parking, Central Parking, and North Parking garages once the Getty Center installation has been completed.

If you have recently purchased or leased an electric vehicle, please be sure to enroll or update your vehicle information in the Getty’s Electric Vehicle Registry by sending your vehicle’s make, model, and color to the Parking Office. If you drive a Tesla vehicle and park at TOH, please use the dedicated Tesla chargers on the P4 level rather than the universal chargers. Other electric vehicle charging policies and procedures can be found on GO. Simply type “Electric Vehicle” in the GO search bar.

Will Your Technology Be Ready When You Come Back Onsite?

As we anticipate an eventual return to work onsite, it may take a little extra time to make sure your computer, phones, and network connection are working properly. Here are a few tips to help you get up and running.

Webby Award Winners

Two Getty projects won Webby Awards, which are presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, and honor excellence on the internet. 12 Sunsets: Exploring Ed Ruscha’s Archive is a winner in the Websites and Mobile Sites: Architecture, Art & Design category. #GettyMuseumChallenge is a People’s Voice (popular vote) winner in the Social: Art & Culture category. Congratulations to all involved with these projects!

Drawing Knowledge Crowdsourcing Project Launched

The Museum’s Drawings Department has successfully launched a crowdsourcing project to encourage active engagement with objects in the collection. Spearheaded by assistant curator Edina Adam, and curatorial assistant Casey Lee, Drawing Knowledge seeks to foster an online community built around a shared appreciation of the drawings in the Museum’s collection. Contributions and conversations centered on works will inform current interpretations and improve the experience of future visitors both in galleries and online. At the project’s completion, the gathered information could potentially influence the titles and descriptions of in-gallery texts and subject-tags and will expand the search functionality on the website, making the collection more accessible. Over 600 volunteers have already contributed to Drawing Knowledge and we invite you to participate or share with others.

Getty Research Journal, No. 13

The spring 2021 issue of the Getty Research Journal is available online (please note that you must be connected to WebConnect or OneConnect to access it). Staff may also navigate to the journal website through the link provided on GO. The Getty Research Journal presents peer-reviewed articles on the visual arts of all cultures, regions, and time periods. Topics relate to Getty collections, initiatives, and broad research interests. The journal welcomes a diversity of perspectives and methodological approaches, and seeks to include work that expands narratives on global culture. This issue features essays on a Parthian stag rhyton and new epigraphic and technical discoveries; gendered devotion and owner portraits in illuminated manuscripts from northern France around 1300; arguments that disprove the attribution of the J. Paul Getty Museum’s sculpture Head with Horns to artist Paul Gauguin; and more.

EVENTS

Reminder: Racial Trauma Sessions

The last two racial trauma sessions will be offered today and tomorrow, 10 a.m.-noon. The workshops are led by Priscilla Murphy (LPCMH, MS, MEd, BSN, RN), a board-certified counselor with Health Advocate’s Employee Assistance Program. During the first hour of each session Ms. Murphy will make a presentation on racial trauma, which will be followed by an hour of facilitated discussion. Registration is not necessary. Use the Zoom links next to the session you wish to join.

Documenting Dissent: L.A. Artists’ Protest Photography

In the wake of an unprecedented year of protests, this conversation explores how artists and scholars use photography to record demonstrations of dissent. Focusing on documentation of protests in Los Angeles since the 1960s, moderators Allissa Richardson and Alex Jones explore the practice of protest photography with local artists George Rodriguez and Ted Soqui, contextualizing contemporary photojournalism in a broader historical framework of documentary photography and drawing on protest imagery in the Getty Research Institute collections. Register in advance for this free online event, May 27, 4-5 p.m.

COVID-19 Vaccine Education Session

Infectious disease specialist and Health Advocate Medical Director Dr. Jocelyn Sivalingham will be hosting two education sessions just for Getty staff, regarding the COVID-19 vaccine. The one-hour sessions will be held via Zoom on June 2 at 10 a.m. and June 3 at noon. Dr. Sivalingham will be providing answers to some frequently asked questions, including: Why should I get vaccinated against COVID-19? Are the vaccines effective? Are they safe? Can I give the virus to someone else, if I’m vaccinated? Can I get the vaccine if…? All of these questions will be answered and more.
