What Is the Breast Dress?

In the late 1970s, artist Anne Gauldin sewed 13 plastic casts of breasts into a pink dress in the style of a 1950s diner uniform. The garment, affectionately known as the Breast Dress, is now an important piece of feminist art history. Learn how the dress came to the GRI and how the team is experimenting with different ways of conserving it on the Iris.

Hollywood Arensberg: Arriving at the House

In the second of two conversations, held via Zoom on March 9, 3-4 p.m., panelists explore how the context of the collection shapes how it is assembled, displayed, and interpreted. The event is presented by the GRI in partnership with the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Register in advance for this online event.

The Ides of March: The Context and Consequences of Caesar’s Death

March 15, the Ides of March, is forever associated with the assassination of Julius Caesar by senators hoping to preserve the Roman Republic. The aftermath was not what they had hoped.
