WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Getty Stands with Asian Communities

Getty firmly rejects hate-related violence and hate speech, racism, and prejudice. We stand with our Asian and Asian American community members, as well as Asian communities around the world that are also targets for unacceptable hate and racism. See the full statement from Jim Cuno.

April Opportunities to Meet with Jim

Jim Cuno invites any staff member who has a topic they would like to discuss in one-on-one meetings to sign up for informal 10-minute conversations. His availability for the month of April is listed below. The 10-minute meetings will be filled first-come, first-served, and will be conducted via Zoom.

In April, Jim will be available:

  • April 21, 3-4 p.m.
  • April 29, 9-10 a.m.

Please contact Piedad Garcia to schedule.

Limited Term Staff

Over the last five months Getty has conducted an analysis of job positions in the categories of Limited Term, Professional Fellows/Post Docs, and Research Assistants. As a result, we decided to convert 57% of the people currently in these groups to regular, full-time positions at Getty. Those who remain in limited-term roles in these job categories are doing so due to the specific responsibilities and needs of the position they hold. Everyone affected by these changes has already been personally informed. We have revised the descriptions of Limited Term, Professional Fellows/Post Docs, Research Assistants, and temporary staff to include clearer explanations of use and length of assignments. The revised descriptions are in the Staff Handbook.

Library Curbside Service

The next Getty Library Curbside Service is April 20–22. All requests for library items made March 11–April 14 will be available for the April curbside service. Please see the attached Curbside Service instructions for April 2021 and FAQ about requesting library materials. Curbside Service dates and related information are also listed on the Getty Library at Home research guide’s Circulation Curbside Service page.

You will be able to make an appointment for a curbside service date and time beginning April 12. Look for information about Reservio and scheduling an appointment in the April 12 THIS WEEK.

Meet a Winner of “In Pursuit Of ___”

Mishelle Trejo, a 17-year-old from Chicago, was one of 33 winners of the Amplifier and J. Paul Getty Museum “In Pursuit of___,” a call for artworks from students ages 13-19. Teenagers were asked to reflect on their own lives, consider the state of the world, and inspire others through their unique artistic visions. The winning artworks, including Trejo’s, were displayed as large-scale projections on city landmarks in Los Angeles, Seattle, Washington, D.C., and Anchorage. Learn more about how Trejo created a poster that combined an archival image of immigrant workers and a caption honoring her parents, who are immigrants from Mexico.

#GettyMuseumChallenge Is the Best

PR Week named #GettyMuseumChallenge Best Viral and Best in Social Media for 2020. The PR Week awards are the most significant in the public relations and marketing fields. Getty was a finalist among big ad and PR agencies, and major, well-funded brands. Congratulations to Sarah Waldorf and everyone on the team who contributed to its success, including staff members who seeded the challenge with their own creations.
