What You Need to Know

Vaccine Second Dose Onsite

As a reminder, employees, docents, volunteers, contract staff, and family members who received their Pfizer vaccine through Curative on site at the Getty Center on June 7 have a second dose scheduled for Monday, June 28, 8-9 a.m. The vaccines will again take place at the P1 level of NEP. Please be sure to bring photo identification, your medical insurance card (if you have one), and your COVID-19 vaccination card to your appointment.

Vaccine Verification or COVID-19 Test

Details about how and where to have your COVID-19 vaccine verified are included in the attached document. Please be sure to pre-register here for vaccine verification and have your QR code available before visiting the nurse station. Please also be sure to have your verification with you. If your vaccine cannot be verified, you will be required to have a weekly COVID-19 test and continue to wear a mask. If/when you get a new Getty ID badge, you will receive a new verification sticker and will need to bring the QR code and your proof of vaccine again. The attached schedule provides days/times for each Getty location through July.

Return to Work FAQs

As more staff prepare to return to Getty workplaces, many of you have questions about parking, transportation, food service, and other topics. Attached is an FAQ that was circulated to all staff last week (attached in both English and Spanish), along with information about vaccine verification (also attached in both English and Spanish) and the Getty Digital checklist. All information will be posted to Getty GO.

Juneteenth National Holiday

We are pleased to see that Juneteenth is now a recognized federal holiday. In response to questions about Getty’s observation of this holiday, we want to share that Getty considers all federal and state holidays when determining which 11 will be observed by Getty. Getty carefully reviews its holiday schedule each year, to ensure equity for employees whose off-Friday falls on a holiday, ensure staff on work schedules 1 and 2 have the days between Christmas and New Year’s as planned holidays, and make certain that all staff receive the same number of holidays, regardless of their work schedule. Holiday schedules may be found on GO under Holiday & Payroll Schedules. The schedule for FY22 is posted and the schedule for FY23 will be posted sometime in January or February.

News

Museum Acquires Pastel

The Museum purchased a pastel by Adélaïde Labille-Guiard, one of the leading women artists in 18th-century Europe. Portrait of Madame Charles Mitoire with Her Children (1783) depicts a fashionably dressed woman breastfeeding her son. Though it was not the first French portrait depicting a well-to-do mother breastfeeding, it was unlike anything that visitors to the Paris Salon of 1783, where the pastel was first exhibited, had ever seen: a formal portrait of a named sitter openly nursing her child. Read more about the Adélaïde Labille-Guiard acquisition on the Iris.

Getty Archivists Support Racial Justice

GRI archivists describe their ongoing effort to reexamine thousands of records to create better and more equitable archives. Their work was catalyzed by the worldwide unrest following the murder of George Floyd, which compelled them to ensure that the voices of oppressed communities are accurately represented in the historical record. Read more about the archivists' efforts on the Iris.

L.A. Pride at the Getty Center

Watch the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles perform “We Shall Be Free,” by Stephanie Davis and Garth Brooks, from the steps of the Getty Center. The performance was the finale of the “Thrive with Pride Celebration” that aired Saturday, June 12, on ABC7/KABC-TV.

Unconscious Bias Workshops

Goal #2 of Getty’s DEAI Plan is to “confront and eliminate racism and discrimination in the workplace,” and one of the action items is to “strengthen and expand anti-racist and unconscious bias training.” In addition, one of the top priorities of the DEAI Council is to hold mandatory anti-bias and anti-racism training. Getty continues to work with the JONES team to provide Unconscious Bias in the Workplace sessions, which are typically offered a couple times a month. Please be aware that we consider this training required, and if you haven’t participated yet, we encourage you to sign up. For July, the dates and times are as follows:

  • July 7, 3-5 p.m.
  • July 27, 3-5 p.m.
