WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Vaccines and Return to Work Update

Last week Steve Olsen sent an email about Getty’s plans to return the remainder of our workforce to the Getty Center, Getty Villa, and Library Annex this summer. He also shared important information about vaccinations and workplace safety, as Getty continues to comply with evolving local public health requirements and a pending state reopening June 15. A copy of his update is attached, and is available on GO.

COVID-19 Tests and Vaccine Verification

Beginning today, employees, scholars, interns, contract employees, docents, and volunteers will no longer be scheduled for COVID-19 tests. However, anyone in these groups who is not fully vaccinated must continue to get tested for COVID-19 on a weekly basis (you are fully vaccinated two weeks after receiving your final dose of the vaccine—whether single or two-dose). If you are fully vaccinated, you are encouraged to provide verification following the instructions in the attached documents in English and Spanish. Both testing and vaccine verification will be held on a drop-in basis during the hours listed for each Getty site. As there will not be scheduled appointments for the vaccine verification and COVID tests, please be patient if there is a line.

Reminder: Onsite COVID-19 Vaccines

Getty is offering free onsite COVID-19 vaccines for all staff, docents, volunteers, and contract staff, even if they are not regularly scheduled to be onsite, as well as their family members age 12 and older. Pfizer vaccines will be provided at the Getty Center on June 7, beginning at 8 a.m., with a second dose on June 28. Even if you did not previously complete the Survey Monkey to express interest, you may still schedule an appointment by going to the Curative scheduling page. Each individual receiving the vaccine must be scheduled in the Curative system by June 4 at noon. Please make sure to bring photo identification and your medical insurance card (if you have one) to your appointment.

At your appointment time, you will arrive at the Getty North Entrance and let the security officer know that you are onsite for a COVID-19 vaccine. You will be directed to the North Entrance Parking Structure, where you can park on level P2 or lower. Once parked, take the elevator up to P1 and proceed to the check-in table. After you have checked in, received your vaccination, and the 15-minute observation time has passed, you will need to return to your vehicle to depart the premises. You will not be permitted onsite beyond NEP if you are not regularly scheduled to work that day.

Library Services in June

Getty Library services will remain the same for the month of June, including virtual reference, interlibrary loan, and curbside circulation. Watch here for information on our plans to reopen more fully to staff in July.

Library Curbside Service

The next Library Curbside Service is June 22–24. All requests for library items made from May 13–June 16 will be available for the June curbside service. Please see the attached Curbside Service instructions for June 2021 and FAQ about requesting library materials. Curbside Service dates and related information are also listed on the Getty Library at Home research guide’s Circulation Curbside Service page. Please look for information regarding Reservio and scheduling an appointment for Curbside Service in the June 14 and June 21 Getty THIS WEEK.

Returning Books Now at Home

Please consider returning books that you have at home during this June curbside service as we begin to make the transition back to working onsite.

Intranet Survey Results

Thanks to everyone who took the time to take the survey. We’re still analyzing the results and finding a lot of useful information. Our top take-aways of what staff would like to see in a new intranet are: better navigation and search, and the opportunity to personalize the home page to feature content important to you. We’re delighted that so many of you volunteered to help us with further input as we move forward.

DIVERSITY, EQUITY, ACCESSIBILITY, AND INCLUSION (DEAI)

Update from the DEAI Council and Senior Leadership

The DEAI Council met with members of Senior Leadership on May 24 to continue their discussion of concrete actions the Council will take to advance the Council’s Top 5 DEAI Priorities. With support from Senior Leadership, the Council is now moving forward with the following additional action items:

  • Survey and collaborate with hiring managers on their hiring practices.
  • Reexamine job descriptions to ensure alignment between actual job duties and stated requirements to ensure language reflects DEAI, and offer recommended changes.
  • Identify staff engagement needs to include professional development, skill building, and community-building opportunities at all levels, and identify factors contributing to potential disengagement.
  • To help Getty staff learn about and understand anti-racism and white supremacy, incorporate DEAI into the Getty performance evaluation system; encourage departments to evaluate and recognize changed culture and celebrate positive changes in DEAI on both a group and individual level; utilize the Cultural Climate Survey to measure DEAI progress.

The DEAI Council looks forward to sharing all seven of its action items at the upcoming All-Staff meeting on June 15. DEAI Council materials can be found on GettyGo.

  • encuestar a gerentes de contratación y colaborar en las prácticas afines a sus responsabilidades;
  • reexaminar las descripciones de los puestos de trabajo para asegurar la coherencia entre las funciones reales del puesto y los requisitos estipulados, a fin de garantizar que el lenguaje refleje la DEAI, y recomendar cambios;
  • identificar las necesidades de participación del personal para incluir perfeccionamiento profesional, desarrollo de habilidades y oportunidades para forjar un sentido de comunidad en todos los niveles, e identificar los factores que contribuyen a la posible falta de participación;

Land Acknowledgment FAQs

A land acknowledgement recognizes and pays respect to Indigenous peoples as traditional caretakers of a particular land or region. It is an important first step to acknowledge and express gratitude to the living descendants who reside today on the ancestral lands where we live and work. The attached document from the staff working group on land acknowledgement addresses your questions, and explains the steps Getty is taking to develop a land acknowledgment in collaboration with local Indigenous communities, and how staff can offer their own personal acknowledgments, with resources to do so.

NEWS

Getty Center Reopening Video

On May 25, the Getty Center opened its doors to the public for the first time in 14 months. Visitors enjoyed the special feeling of being back at the Getty Center and were able to walk through the gardens, explore the architecture, and see the paintings, photographs, and sculpture with fellow art lovers once more. Hear from visitors and see how opening day unfolded in this video.

Getty Center’s reopening was big news, and was covered by KCBS, KNBC, KTLA, KABC, KTTV, KNX, KFI, KPCC, and others. Here is a particularly nice piece that appeared on Good Day LA, and a beautiful photo essay that appeared in the Los Angeles Times.
