Institutional Archives

The Institutional Archives at the J. Paul Getty Trust document the Getty's activities as an international cultural and philanthropic organization dedicated to the visual arts. Featuring institutional records created by past and current administrations and programs of the Trust—including those of the Museum, the Conservation Institute, the Education Institute, the Information Institute, the Leadership Institute, the Research Institute, and the Getty Foundation—the archive's holdings are extensive. The portions of the archives available to the public include:

Administrative records created by the Getty's offices and operating programs
Records documenting external collaborations and Getty-funded projects
Documentation of public programming including information about exhibitions, publications and audiovisual recordings of Getty-sponsored events
Records related to the construction of the Getty Center in Brentwood, the Getty Villa in Malibu, and the J. Paul Getty's original Ranch House museum
Press releases and media coverage about the Getty and its events, activities, and actions
Collected papers related to J. Paul Getty and the Getty-related personal papers of trustees and key staff members
Oral histories with artists, art historians, and Getty staff and officials
