Murals are an archetypal form of twentieth-century art. They constitute an important historical record and are valued not only as a means of artistic expression but also as a representation of the social and political concerns of individuals or communities. A cross-disciplinary roster of art historians, conservators, and artists will discuss the social, artistic, and political dimensions of murals, the value they hold for different constituencies, and the rationale and conservation techniques for insuring their long-term survival.
