About
Goal
This project assessed whether crowdsourcing is useful for data collection and scholarly engagement in the study of art. To that end, Mutual Muses crowdsourced transcriptions of over 2,300 letters from the archives of art critic Lawrence Alloway and feminist realist painter Sylvia Sleigh. Specifically, it sought to discover the implications of crowdsourcing for data analysis and integration, new collaborations between external communities and the Getty Research Institute, and novel methods by which cultural heritage institutions create knowledge.
