About
Goal
The Museums in Africa initiative improved collections care on the continent by building professional capacity, strengthening key heritage organizations, and coordinating region-wide training.
Outcomes
Transformation of museum collection care and the professional capacity of museum professionals in Africa through training of hundreds of museum staff members from more than 40 African countries in the Prevention for Museums in Africa (PREMA) project.
Successful completion of the Getty East Africa Project, a three-year training program, organized through the British Museum’s International Training Programme, with workshops in Mombasa and Kisumu attended by museum professionals from Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda
The creation of the first two permanent African conservation organizations: the Ecole du Patrimoine Africain (EPA) in Benin and the Centre for Heritage Development in Africa (CHDA) in Kenya.
