Photo-documentation of the mural was undertaken in 1990 by photographer Nancy Kaye in conjunction with the first phase of conservation. This was followed by a complete digital capture and tiling of the mural in 1993 by Getty Conservation Institute fellow Eric Lange. Conservation Institute specialists then conducted condition assessments of the mural in 1997, 2002, and 2012.
Graphic documentation was carried out on site both manually and with tablet computers to record conservation technique, conditions, previous interventions, treatments by the Conservation Institute, and post-treatment monitoring.
Maps were created with computer-aided drafting software to be used as baseline information with which to monitor change over time. Written reports document conditions as well as materials and methods used for treatment at every stage of the project. Video documentation captured different phases of the project.
