The building is pink and it is located at the corner of West Sunset Blvd and Westgate. Parking is available in front of the building and on Westgate.

Please read the following important information regarding your travel arrangements, arrival at Scholar Housing, and the travel contribution you will receive from Getty.

Arrival and Departure Days

Please do not plan to move into your apartment on a Saturday, or Sunday, holiday, or on every other Friday when Getty Staff is not working. Contact an OSIP team member for information about Scholar Housing off-Fridays.

The first and last dates of your residency, as reported in your agreement letter, are also the move-in and move-out dates from Scholar Housing. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate early arrivals nor late departures, but you are welcome to arrive during one of the first 2 days of your residency. This means:


Spring Term 2024 - April 8 and 9
Summer Term 2024 - July 8 and 9
Fall Term 2024 - September 23 and 24
Winter Term 2025 - April 6 and 7
Spring Term 2025 - April 7 and 8

Arrival Hours

As Scholar Housing is an apartment building it does not operate like a hotel and, consequently, our check-in is not 24 hours/seven days a week. Move-ins are scheduled on weekdays and during regular business hours (from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM) so that our Housing Coordinator can meet you and assist you in getting settled in.

If you will be flying to Los Angeles, please note that to arrive at Scholar Housing by 5:00 PM you should plan to arrive at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) by approximately 3:30 PM at the latest.

Send Us Your Travel Itinerary

We will need to check that your arrival and departure days and times are within these Travel Guidelines. OSIP will need the following information: air company, flight number, arrival date and time at LAX, departure date and time from LAX.

We strongly discourage arriving at Scholar Housing unannounced as you may not find a staff member available to let you into the building and you may need to check into a hotel.

Arrival During Non-Business Days/Hours

It is very important to remember that nobody will be able to check into Scholar Housing during non-business days/hours.

If you plan to arrive in Los Angeles at a time other than during regular business days/hours, please confirm with OSIP that you have other accommodation arranged. You may find the following accommodation link helpful as it contains a list of local hotels, which you can contact.

Hotel & Other Housing

This link will also be placed at the main entrance door of the building in case you arrive at Scholar Housing during non-business days/hours. Getty will not reimburse these lodging expenses.

If your flight is delayed, or there are other complications while you are traveling to Los Angeles, kindly contact the Getty Scholar Housing Coordinator, Amy Meyers at 310-903-2123 or at ameyers@getty.edu to inform her of the delay. She will send you instructions accordingly.

You will be required to vacate Scholar Housing by midnight on your last day of residency. You will find this date on your agreement letter. Consequently, the departure date on your airline ticket should reflect your last day of residency, unless you are planning to stay longer in Los Angeles (or in the U.S.) in different accommodation. In this case, please let OSIP know your plans for new lodging before your arrival. Regrettably we cannot make any exception and extend any residency even if only for a few hours.

Taking A Cab From LAX to Scholar Housing

Please be sure to arrive in Los Angeles with enough US currency to cover taxi fare (approx. $80 - $100) LAX to Getty Scholar Housing in Brentwood. You can also use rideshare (such as Uber of Lyft) by downloading the app on your mobile device and creating an account. For pick up location, please refer to FlyLAX website.

COVID

This policy is subject to change.

In the unfortunate case that you feel sick, we strongly suggest that you take an at-home COVID test prior to move-in. If the test result is positive, please find alternative accommodation until the test result is negative.

Getty Travel Contribution

You will receive the travel contribution via direct deposit to you US bank account, or via USD check a few weeks after you arrive at the Getty.

Please note the following regarding the travel contribution:

• The contribution is offered to cover your own personal travel expenses partially or fully.
• If you spend less than $2,000 you may keep the difference.
• The amount is not negotiable: if you spend more than $2,000 Getty will not increase the contribution amount.
• You do not need to provide us with receipts of your travel expenses, nor will you need to provide a refund if you spend less than $2,000.
• You will receive the contribution only if you arrive in Los Angeles. If you have spent money for travel purposes but, for any reason (personal matters, pandemic, war, etc.) you cannot come to Los Angeles, you will not receive the travel contribution, and Getty will not reimburse you for the travel expenses you have incurred.

Taxes

The value of the Scholar Housing apartment and any other benefit you may receive from Getty are considered imputed income, and they may need to be reported when filing taxes according to each individual situation.
