Teutonico’s achievements include pioneering and leading the GCI’s role in the MOSAIKON initiative in partnership with the Getty Foundation, the ICCM, and the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM). She received a mosaic plaque produced by mosaic conservation students from Jordan.
An audience of 250 delegates, including prominent local politicians and the Directors General for Antiquities of Jordan and Lebanon, attended the ceremony, which kicked off the 14th annual ICCM conference held in Plovdiv, Bulgaria from October 24–28. Around 200 conservators, archaeologists, art historians, and other cultural heritage professionals who work in the public or private sector in the broader area of mosaic conservation convened for the conference, with attendees hailing from Greece, Italy, Lebanon, North Macedonia, and Syria, among other countries.
This year’s theme was Conserving Mosaics in a Changing Environment: Challenges and Opportunities. Core challenges addressed included climate change and natural disasters, geopolitical conflicts, and rapid urbanization, among other issues. Conference session topics included Mosaics in Urban Environment and Shelters, Conservation and Management, Modern Era Mosaics, Documentation, and Best Practice Case Studies.
