Born and raised in Los Angeles, Melissa Joaquin developed an eye for art at a very young age. She was hypnotized by the endless amounts of creativity displayed in her community and used it as inspiration. She began drawing, painting, and practicing photography as an outlet growing up. Melissa has since been on a journey to understand the unlimited possibilities of visual storytelling through photography. Still evolving, she continues to practice being able to capture the personal perspectives that often go unnoticed and is drawn to capturing images of subjects in their natural or familiar environments. Through her practice, she has picked up the importance of angles and shadows that impact the overall vision of an image. When finalizing and editing photos, she emphasizes the subjects that contribute to our society artistically.
