Leo Phillips (he/they)

Selected Photographs

Leo Phillips is a native of Northeast Los Angeles and currently a high school senior in downtown Los Angeles, where they are focusing on photography and video within the Visual Academy. In their photography, Leo is exploring the relationship between natural and man-made entities through the manipulation and use of light at night, which can intersect in surprising and sometimes beautiful ways. Recently they have been experimenting with shooting, developing, and printing 35-mm film through their photography class and documenting the street skate scene through videography. Street skaters rebel against man-made structures by using them in unexpected ways to create kinetic art, and their videography therefore portrays skateboarding as a vital contemporary art form. Leo has supplementary skills in fine arts and illustration. They have created works of art in various media, including charcoal, graphite, colored pencil, pen, and ink.
