Juri Kim (she/her)

Selected Photographs

Juri Kim’s identity as a second-generation Korean American female student living in Los Angeles influences her artistic practice. She relies on her experiences growing up in a multicultural environment and how her identity has been influenced by both her Korean origin and her upbringing in the United States. Juri investigates ideas of identity, belonging, and cultural hybridity through her artwork. She is particularly interested in how cultural practices and traditions can be repurposed and understood in novel situations, as well as how this process can deepen and change how we perceive ourselves and our communities. She is fascinated by the intersection of various artistic fields, and as such, her work frequently incorporates a variety of mediums and methods. Photography in particular, has captured Juri’s imagination due to its ability to be transformed and altered throughout the creative process. Ultimately, she desires her work to unite people from different groups and cultures and to encourage others to discover their own identities and connections to the world.
