Post-Visit Activity: Create a class Memory Wall with drawings of your field trip memories to help each other remember, notice, and learn new things

Learning Objectives

In this activity, you will:

  • think and talk about what you saw, did, and enjoyed during your Getty Museum field trip
  • create a drawing of one of your memories to add to a classroom Memory Wall
  • discover new ideas and questions by looking closely at the Memory Wall with your classmates

Materials Needed

  • Paper
  • Pencils
  • Crayons, markers, or colored pencils

Assignment

What Do You Remember?

Think back to your visit to the Getty Museum. Talk with a partner about the things you saw, did, and enjoyed.

Something I Did

  • What was your favorite thing you did?
  • What did you enjoy about it?

An Artwork I Remember

  • What is an artwork you remember?
  • What did you like about it?

Something Else I Remember

  • What is something else you remember from your visit?
  • What do you remember most about it?

What Memory Do You Want to Share?

Think about the memories you talked about with your partner.

Choose one to draw:

  • something you did
  • an artwork you remember
  • something else you remember

Before you draw it, close your eyes and think about your memory. Picture yourself back at the museum. What details can you remember? Include those details in your drawing to help your classmates see what you remember.

Let’s Build the Memory Wall

When you and your classmates finish your drawings, you’ll add them to the class Memory Wall. Every drawing helps tell the story of your field trip!

Take a walk around the Memory Wall and look closely at the drawings. As a class, talk about:

  • What are some things we remembered?
  • What memories show up in more than one drawing?
  • What is something new you learned from a classmate's drawing?

Thinking Back Can Spark New Ideas

Creating the Memory Wall helped you remember your field trip and see what your classmates remembered, too. Sometimes, thinking back on something can help us come up with new ideas and questions. Maybe a classmate's drawing helped you notice something you hadn't thought about before. Maybe there’s something you want to know more about. What new things did you notice after looking at the Memory Wall? What questions do you have? Share your thoughts with the class. Your teacher will write them down on sticky notes and add them to the Memory Wall. By sharing our memories, we helped each other remember, notice, and learn new things!
