The first phase of the Conservation and Rehabilitation Plan comprised an architectural survey of the entire site using appropriate and suitable documentation techniques.

Using the site survey, the plan assessed priority repair needs of the Caid Residence and Stara sectors of the Kasbah, particularly basic remedial measures such as debris removal, drainage and roof repairs, shoring of weakened walls, and pest removal, among others.

Included in this work was the documentation of wall paintings located in the Caid Residence that feature traditional patterns and motifs painted in bright colors.

This phase provided training workshops on aspects related to the documentation of earthen sites.
