Native Hosts California Today your Host Is Povu'nga (markers, historic; (Hock E Aye Vi Edgar Heap of Birds, Cheyenne/Arapaho install...; 2013)
Note: Part of a larger series also titled "Native Hosts," this particular installation was installed outdoors in Claremont, California. Consisting of a steel panel modeled off of roadsigns and historic markers, the work references the past and continued existence of the Tongva, a Native North American tribe from Los Angeles county. "Povu'nga" refers to the Tonvgan town located in present-day Long Beach, California. Nineteen other signs were made and placed by Heap of Birds across Claremont, primarily around Pitzer College, referencing Tongvan locations.
