Note: ca. 113 linear ft. (99 boxes) + ADD1 (2 boxes). The collection, compiled by Ken and Jenny Jacobson, consists of circa 4,500 photographic images of the Middle East and North Africa, the majority dating between 1850 and 1920. More than 164 photographers and photographic studios are identified. In addition to single prints in various formats, the collection includes stereo views, photograph albums, photographically-illustrated books, printed ephemera, and a variety of photo-reproductive technologies. Photographs of the Middle East and North Africa predominate, particularly Egypt, the Maghreb, and the Levant, from Morocco in the west to Arabia and Syria in the east. Geographically, the collection is strongest on views of Egypt (2087 photographs), followed by Algeria (787), Palestine (538), Tunisia (323), Syria and Lebanon (284), Turkey (97), the Caucasus (50), and Arabia (28).
