Net Pattern Bowl (bowl (vessel); Unknown Parthian (Parthian Artist); 1st century BCE; J. Paul Getty Museum at the Getty Villa (Malibu, Los Angeles...; 86.AM.752.3)

Note: The net pattern bowl is raised from single sheet of silver and is parcel-gilt with stone inlays. The bowl is shallow with exuberant decoration composed of a net of two rows of eight staggered pentagonals, arranged around a central leaf calyx of Near Eastern type. Each individual pentagonal frames a rosette-like flower with a garnet in the center. Another garnet marks the center of bowl. Broad silver strips separate the pentagonals and four groups of tongues in the central leaf calyx contrast to their gilded surrounding.
