Note: Allegory of impermanence. Vanitas still life with a skull crowned with a laurel wreath, books, an hourglass, an extinguished candle, a vase of flowers and various paint attributes. In the foreground are open books with visible text. In the open book in the middle: "Marc 13-13: Wie volstandich[...]sal salig worde. en: Apoc.14: Salich syn de doode[...]." At left is a copper plate with an image of Hercules, with the monogram of Hendrick Hondius. The image accompanies text in letterpress in two columns of 32 lines each in Dutch.
