Hollstein); Voorhelm Schneevoogt records a print reproducing the Louvre version; The Flemish engraver Schelte Adamsz. Bolswert produced a large number of reproductive prints after Rubens, Jordaens, van Dyck, and other artists; A reproductive engraving by Schelte Bolswert after the painting "Paesaggio con pastori e arcobaleno" from 1635-1638 by Peter Paul Rubens (cf. Jaffé). Two versions of the painting are known, one at the Louvre in Paris, France, the other at the Hermitage in St. Petersburg, Russia (cf. Bodart). Rubens's painting forms part of a suite of twenty landscape paintings named "The set of the small landscapes" (cf. Hollstein). The print is in reverse of the painting; The engraving depicts a bucolic landscape with two ewes grazing in the left foreground. Nearby a shepherdess and a shepherd rest closely together. A melancholic shepherd leans his right arm on a milk container. In the right foreground another shepherd embraces a shepherdess, while a dog looks on. This scene remains unnoticed by a fourth shepherd sitting under a tree. He has just interrupted his flute playing tolooks in amazement at a rainbow above the mountains to the far left. In the background, among trees, a shepherd tends to a flock. In the far distance appear a river and a bridge, a small village, a church, and three grazing cattle.
