M. / FRATRIS FILII; Inscription in the lower margin: ABVNDIVS AVRELLI F REZZONICVS SENATOR VRBIS / MONVMENTVM PATRVI SANCTISSIMI SVO ET CONCORDISSIMORVM FRATRVM NOMINE / IN BASILICA VATICANA ANNO MDCC LXXXXII DICATVM / ARTIFICI MANV IN AERE EFFIGENDVM EXPRESSISQVE INDE EXEMPLIS VVLGANDVM C; Born into a family of printmakers from Naples, Raffaello Morghen moved to Rome in 1778; The line engraving, derived from a drawing by Stefano Tofanelli, depicts the sepulchral monument of Pope Clement III, commissioned by Senator Abbondio Rezzonico, his nephew, and sculpted by Antonio Canova (St. Peter's, Rome); Seen in a niche, the sarcophagus is flanked by a standing figure of Religion, which grasps a cross, and the reclining genius of Death holding an inverted torch, each accompanied by a crouching lion. At the top is a statue of the pope kneeling on a cushion, hands in prayer, with the triple tiara at his side; Forms part of the Collection of festival prints, 1530-1887 (Special Collections accn. no.
