Note: Inscription in the lower right corner of image: Eques Ioseph Vasi / sculpsit; The motto of the Order of the Garter ("HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE") and the motto of the British monarch ("DIEU ET MON DROIT") are inscribed on the coat of arms in the lower center of plate; Impressions of the etching were issued in: Funerali di Giacomo III, re della Gran Brettagna celebrati per ordine di nostro signore papa Clemente XIII, l'anno MDCCLXVI (In Roma : Per Gioacchino, e Giangiuseppe Salvioni ..., [1766]); The Basilica of SS. Apostoli was the parish church of James Francis Edward Stuart or James III, who had been granted the nearby Palazzo Balestra (formerly Palazzo Muti) on the Piazza SS. Apostoli as his Roman residence by Pope Clement XI; Sicilian printmaker and painter from Corleone, who moved to Rome in 1736; The print shows Prince James Francis Edward of Wales, who died on January 1, 1766, lying in state at the Basilica of the SS. Apostoli in Rome; The former claimant to the English and Scottish thrones appears in full view in the nave of the church decorated for the occasion by the architect Paolo Posi. An oversize royal crown adorned with drapes forms a baldachin over his body; Library has another impression bound in: Funerali di Giacomo III, re della Gran Brettagna celebrati per ordine di nostro signore papa Clemente XIII, l'anno MDCCLXVI; Forms part of the Collection of festival prints, 1530-1887 (Special Collections accn. no.
