Note: Inscribed in lower left corner of plate: N. Dorignij Sculp; An etcher and engraver from Paris, Nicolas Dorigny moved to Rome in 1687, and collaborated there with several of the de' Rossi publishers; The print depicts a fireworks display designed by Ciro Ferri to commemorate the liberation in 1686 of the city of Buda from the Turks by a Christian army organized by the Holy Roman Emperor Leopold I; The temporary architectural structure features a Turk who has fallen among trophies on a sarcophagus, which bears the inscription: TANDEM DEFICIET. An eagle, crowned by a putto, is eating the Turk's heart; Numbered in brown ink in upper right corner of plate: 50; Forms part of the Collection of festival prints, 1530-1887 (Special Collections accn. no. P910002**).
