Note: The Swedish architect Carl Hårleman served as mentor to the printmaker Jean Eric Rehn, providing him a scholarship to practice engraving in Paris in 1740, and later securing him a position at the Manufakturkontor in Stockholm; Swedish architect, designer, draftsman, and etcher; The print shows the funeral decorations designed by Carl Hårleman for the obsequies of Queen Ulrika Eleonora of Sweden, consort of Frederick I, who died on 24 November 1741; The decorations adorn the organ loft in the royal church of Riddarholm in Stockholm, from which music accompanying the dirges could be heard during the funeral ceremony. A portrait medallion of the queen is flanked by two putti; Forms part of the Collection of festival prints, 1530-1887 (Special Collections accn. no. P910002**). Publication: [1741]. | |
