Note: In the lower margin, a crest surmounted by a crown is flanked by two columns of Latin text, followed by a dedication to Bartolomeo Bellani, the Venetian Marquis Gicalteri; Flemish painter and etcher, also active in Venice and Mantua; Aeneas is seated naked at the center of the composition, with his helmet, sword and armor forged by Vulcan at his feet. He gazes at left towards his mother Venus, who lifts a drape, while a faun, a nymph and cupids cleanse him. Publication: [16--]. | |
