Note: The night scene lit by a torch is dated about 1647-1651, when Castiglione was interested in the effects of nocturnal illumination and in Rembrandt's chiaroscuro etchings; "GIO. BENEDETO / CATGLIONE / P"--etched in upper left area, above the dog; "G.B.C."--etched in the lower center of image; A related drawing attributed to Castiglione is in the Parson collection, London; Title from The ill. Bartsch; Painter, printmaker, and draftsman from Genoa, also active in Rome, Naples, and Mantua; The print depicts the story of Tobit, the father of Tobias, who buried the slain Israelites in secret, as told in the Old Testament Apocrypha (Book of Tobit 1, 17-18; 2, 4-7); Gift of Dr. Richard A.
