The collection of Barbara and Lawrence Fleischman of New York is the most important private collection of ancient Greek and Roman art in the United States and is among the most important in the world. Comprised of approximately three
hundred objects from the Bronze Age to the Late Antique, it includes bronze statuettes, marble sculpture, vases, jewelry, lamps and candelabra, keys, weights, and silver bowls and utensils. Most have never before been publicly
exhibited.
A Passion for Antiquities, published to coincide with exhibitions at the Getty Museum and Cleveland Museum, contains photographs and descriptions of each of the 183 objects on display. The remaining objects in the collection are detailed in a
checklist.
Eighteen contributors provide art historical and descriptive information about the individual pieces. The contributors are Maxwell L. Anderson, Janet B. Grossman, J.
