Idurre Alonso During the late ’60s, beginning of the ’70s, you have artists trying to reach out to viewers that are not inside a museum, and trying to generate works of art in an open environment. And that’s exactly what Davidovich did in this project, which is outside in the street, where he’s creating these lines with tape.
Male narrator How did Jaime Davidovich choose tape as his medium?

Idurre Alonso He started working with painting first. And then he started to add tape to his paintings, and eventually decided to just use tape to create his works.
These three photographs document a project, but he then added tape to the photograph itself, in the case of two of them. So, two of them are not just documentation. He was working on the actual photograph, altering it with tape.

Male narrator Davidovich changes our perception of an everyday space like a sidewalk and disrupts the usually untouched surface of the photograph. He once explained: “This is the role of the artist: to look at the places where you’re not supposed to look and do the things you’re not supposed to do.”
Idurre Alonso I think it’s an aesthetic work, but once you’re working outside the traditional way of making art, you’re making a political statement by doing that. You’re working against the norm.
