Note: Japanese culture and period lasting from December 1830 through December 1844; also known as Tempō. It was initiated to signal a break with the Bunsei era after disasters of earthquake and fire. The name means: "Heavenly Imperial Protection". It was a culturally rich period marked by ambitious, if ultimately failed, campaigns of reform.

| Dutch ..... Japanse cultuur en periode van december 1830 tot en met december 1844; ook bekend als Tempō. In deze cultuur werd gebroken met het Bunsei-tijdperk na rampzalige aardbevingen en branden. De naam betekent 'Hemelse keizerlijke bescherming'. Deze cultureel rijke periode werd gekenmerkt door ambitieuze, hoewel uiteindelijk mislukte hervormingscampagnes. |
