Note: Species of predatory sea snail, native to central and western parts of the Mediterranean Sea, the Indian Ocean, and South China Sea. It was used to make expensive purple dye since Antiquity; it produces a milky secretion that turns into a powerful and lasting dye when exposed to air.

| Dutch ..... Soort onder de roofzeeslakken die inheems is in het midden en westen van de Middellandse Zee, de Indische Oceaan en de Zuid-Chinese Zee. Werd in het verleden, sinds de oudheid, gebruikt voor de productie van een dure paarse kleurstof; de slak maakt een melkachtige stof aan die bij contact met lucht verandert in een krachtige en blijvende kleurstof. |
