The Getty Center offers unique experiences for groups of all kinds, with people of all ages. Discover the architecture and gardens, take in spectacular views, and enjoy both casual and fine dining. It's a great place for groups to meet and learn about art.

What Is a Group?

A group is 15 or more people arriving by bus or car.

We encourage any group of more than 15 people to make a group reservation, because we can help you arrange tours, activities, and group dining options. Reservations are required for vehicles that seat more than 15 people.

Architecture tours are available for all groups. Groups from registered nonprofit organizations can also arrange tours of the Museum's galleries and exhibitions. See Tours and Activities for Groups below for details.

College Students and Professors, and K–12 Teachers

Make a Reservation

Please call Visitor Services at (310) 440-7300 or fill out the Getty Center Group Reservation Form (PDF, 95 KB) and e-mail it to groups@getty.edu. If you would like a free guided tour, please make reservations at least four weeks in advance.

Cancellations
We appreciate receiving cancellations for group tours at least 48 hours in advance of your reservation, since this affects our staffing schedule. Call Visitor Services at (310) 440-7300, Monday through Sunday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and tell the associate that you would like to cancel a group tour.

While admission is free, there is a fee for parking.

Please pay in advance by check or credit card.

Registered nonprofit organizations are exempt from parking fees for oversize vehicles (not for cars). Please provide a valid Federal Tax ID number when making the reservation.

Drop-off
Passenger drop-offs are permitted with reservations. For safety, please do not load or unload on Sepulveda Boulevard.

 
Group Dining Options

Cafes, Restaurant, and Coffee
The Getty Center has two cafes that offer affordable and healthy options for groups (starting at $5). A formal restaurant provides stunning views of the Santa Monica Mountains. Coffee carts also provide prepared sandwiches, drinks, and sweets. Learn more about Where to Eat.

 

Cafe Vouchers
Purchase pre-paid cafe vouchers for your group through our catering office. The vouchers are redeemable at all dining facilities at the Getty Center and provide a convenient way to pay for the dining costs for your whole group in advance. Please contact the Getty Center catering office directly for more information: (310) 440-6213.

 

Picnic Box Lunches
Groups have the option to arrange for picnic box lunches through the Getty Center catering office by calling (310) 440-6213 or filling out an online form.
Order Picnic

All box lunches are self-contained in transportable, disposable bags. Pick up lunches on the Plaza Level, in front of the Restaurant.

Picnic Areas
There are many locations at the Getty Center for groups to sit and eat together. Tables and chairs are available on the Garden Terrace, and the lawn in the Central Garden is a great place for a picnic.

 

Private Dining Room
For an elegant catered lunch, the Private Dining Room can seat up to 54 people. The room is located above the Restaurant, and has stunning views of the city and mountains. For reservations, call (310) 440-6213.

 
Tours and Activities for Groups

Please note that all tours require a minimum of four weeks advance booking. All tours are free.

• Architecture Tours
All groups may arrange in advance for a docent-led tour of the Getty Center's architecture. Learn more about the Getty Center's architecture.

 

• Getty Research Institute Exhibition Tours
Request a tour of the exhibition at the Getty Research Institute. For this option, please e-mail GRIconnect@getty.edu.

 

Tours for Registered Nonprofit Organizations
• Gallery and Exhibition Tours
A Getty Museum gallery teacher leads a one-hour tour of the Museum. Limited to 50 people. Choose from a highlights tour, select a theme for your group, or tour an exhibition.

    Pick up audio players in the Museum Entrance Hall and use them to lead your group on tours of exhibitions and highlights of the permanent collection. Selected audio stops are available in many languages. Available for a nominal fee. Learn more about GettyGuide™.
  • Outdoor Sculpture Tour
    Explore the 20th-century sculpture installed throughout the Getty Center site. Download an audio tour of the Modern Outdoor Sculpture at the Getty Center.
  • Architecture, Gardens, Events
    Visit Things to See and Do for ideas about exploring the gardens and architecture, and to view the event calendar.
  • Activities for Young People
    Groups with young people of all ages can solve mysteries on an art detective hunt, listen to storytelling, or join a family tour. Learn about more ongoing and seasonal programs on our Tips for Families page.
  • Lead Your Own Group Tour
    Registered nonprofit organizations can guide groups through the galleries and exhibitions. Please pick up an "Educator" badge at the Museum Information desk (be prepared to show nonprofit organization identification), and divide your group into groups of 15 or fewer before entering the galleries.
  • Orientation Film
    When you arrive, your group can watch this film in the Museum Entrance Hall. The film gives an overview of the collections on view at the Getty Center. The film is also available online: Watch the Getty Center orientation film. (9:45)
  • Getty Center Map & Guide
    Your group can pick up copies of this guide in the Museum Entrance Hall. It provides an overview of the architecture, gardens, and collections, and is available in English, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Korean, Japanese, Russian, and Spanish.
  • Current Exhibitions
    Our exhibitions are always changing and can be the perfect focus for a visit. Learn about exhibitions currently on view.

What Is a Group?

A group is 15 or more people arriving by bus or car.

We encourage any group of more than 15 people to make a group reservation, because we can help you arrange tours, activities, and group dining options. Group reservations are required for vehicles that seat more than 15 people. Group visitors arriving by car must be in posession of a timed, dated ticket.

Tours of the Villa site are available for all groups. Groups from registered nonprofit organizations can also arrange tours of the permanent collection and changing exhibitions. See Tours and Activities for Groups below for details.

Drop-off
Buses are not permitted to drop off passengers at the Villa.

Passenger drop-offs from vehicles with nine passengers or fewer are permitted. Each person dropped off must have a Villa ticket. Security officers or Visitor Services staff will direct you to the drop-off area.

 

Public Transportation
No walk-ins are permitted at the Getty Villa, except those arriving by public transportation. Passengers arriving at Pacific Coast Highway and Coastline Drive via public bus must have their Villa admission ticket hole-punched by the driver before exiting the bus in order to enter the Villa.

 
Group Dining Options

Cafe and Coffee
The Getty Villa Cafe offers affordable and healthy Mediterranean fare (starting at $10). The Coffee Kiosk also provides sandwiches, snacks, drinks, and sweets. Learn more about Where to Eat.

 

Cafe Vouchers

The vouchers are redeemable at the Getty Villa Cafe and provide a convenient way to pay for the dining costs for your whole group in advance. Order Picnic

All picnic lunches are self-contained in transportable, disposable boxes. Pick up box lunches near the cafe.

Picnic Areas
Groups can sit and eat together at tables on the cafe terrace or in the outdoor theater. The school-group picnic area is available on weekends and after 1:00 p.m. on weekdays. Ask Visitor Services staff for directions.

 

Founders Room
For an elegant catered lunch, the Founders Room can seat up to 54 people. The room is located above the cafe, and has stunning views of the Villa and the Pacific Ocean. For reservations, call (310) 440-6808.

• Villa Site Tours
Arrange for a 45-minute tour of the Getty Villa with a focus on the site's history, renovation, and educational mission. We may be able to accommodate interest in particular aspects of the architecture and gardens. Limited to 60 people per day. Available in the afternoon only.
