An Evening of French Fusion
at the Getty Center

A Flavorful Mix of Wine, Art, and Film

Date: Friday and Saturday, June 15–16, 2007
Time: 6:30–7:30 p.m.
Location: Getty Center, Terrace of the Harold Williams Auditorium
Admission: $12 per person; no reservations required.

This summer visit France without ever leaving Los Angeles. Join us for an evening of ooh la la and French fusion at the Getty Center, a special wine tasting event filled with wine, art and film from France.
Begin the evening by sampling a selection of exquisite French wines including an '03 Bordeaux Univitis Red Blend, Grand Theater and an '04 Chardonnay, Gala Rouge. Wines will be served alongside mouth-watering hors d'oeuvres. Sip and eat among friends, take in the view and revel in this casual atmosphere.

The wine tasting is offered at $12 per person and no reservation is required.

After indulging your palate, feast your eyes on one of the greatest masterpieces of 19th-century French art, A Bar at the Folies-Bergère. Édouard Manet's painting of the famed French night club seldom leaves Britain's Courtauld Institute of Art and is on view at the J. Paul Getty Museum in the exhibition Manet's Bar at the Folies-Bergère (on view through September 9, 2007). In addition, visit the Getty's other galleries and exhibitions, including the exhibition Defining Modernity, European Drawings, 1800–1900, featuring works by Degas, Van Gogh, Seurat and more.

Enjoy French Cimema
The evening wouldn't be complete without a bit of French cinema. Beginning at 7:30 p.m., make your way over to the Harold Williams Auditorium and explore gritty, imaginative, moving films inspired by indelible 19th-century writers, Guy de Maupassant and Émile Zola. Le Plasir, based on stories by de Maupassant, plays on Friday, June 15. Nana, based on Zola's novel L'Assommoir, will be shown on Saturday, June 16. The films are presented in association with the film series, The Belly of Paris: Flaubert, Maupassant, and Zola on Film and all are FREE. Reservations are required for only the film screening.
