Family Storytelling
Spring 2009

Experience art through tall tales with Family Storytelling, a fun educational program that gives you and your kids new ways to look at and think about works of art.

The program is free. Sign up at the Museum Information Desk beginning at 10:00 a.m. on the day of the program. Arrive early to reserve your spot—spaces often fill up.


Tempt Fate with Angela Lloyd

Dates: Sundays, February 8, March 8, April 5, and May 31, 2009
Times: 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m.

Hear Angela Lloyd tell a unique story of luck and fortune inspired by Dosso Dossi's painting Allegory of Fortune.

First, you'll go on an alphabetical journey through the painting, from "A is for apple—look high up in the basket!" to "Z is for the zigzag line their arms and legs make." With every letter, discover something new about this incredible work of art.

Next, hear Angela weave a tale about Chance, a handsome young man on a journey. Chance meets up with Lady Fortune, who grants him 13 magical wishes—if he can cast the spell just right! Discover what happens with Chance and Fortune as the tale continues and the artwork unfolds before your eyes.

Solve a Mystery with Makinto

Dates: Sundays, February 22, March 15, April 19, and May 17, 2009
Times: 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m.

Join storyteller Makinto as he unlocks the mystery hidden in James Ensor's colossal painting Christ's Entry into Brussels in 1889.

Makinto weaves an imaginative tale with music and motion as you solve the puzzle—where is James hiding in this enormous work of art? Can you find the bishop, an African mask, or a lonely parasol? You'll use these clues to find Little Jimmy, learn about the painting, and most of all, have fun!
