Archaeologist Rubina Raja speaks about the ancient city of Palmyra, Syria, examining its archaeology, history, and unique funerary portrait tradition dating to the Roman period. Her international Palmyra Portrait Project seeks to document more than 3,000 sculptures, part of this oasis city’s unique cultural heritage, which is currently at risk from the Syrian Civil War.
