  • Spouse
  • Domestic partner (registered in California or equivalent)
  • Children, through December 31 of the year in which they turn age 26

Getty Medical Plan - UnitedHealthcare HMO Plan

The Getty offers an HMO, or Health Maintenance Organization Plan, through UnitedHealthcare:

  • Signature Value Advantage Plan

For this plan, you must choose a Primary Care Physician (PCP) from the plan's network of doctors and hospitals. After you enroll, you and your covered dependents will receive an identification card with the name and phone number of your PCP. Each covered dependent can have a different PCP, but each doctor must be in the plan's network.

To receive medical care under the plan, you must use the PCP that is indicated on your ID card. He/she will direct all of your medical care needs. If you receive care from a doctor other than the PCP indicated on your identification card, you are responsible for paying for the full cost of the care.

For more information, see the Schedule of Benefits for the UnitedHealthcare Signature Value Advantage Plan.

You may change your PCP to another network PCP by calling UnitedHealthcare. Changes made by the 15th of the month will be effective the 1st of the following month. Changes made after the 15th of the month will take effect the 1st of the second month following the change. For example:

Date Called In PCP Change: March 10
Effective Date Of PCP Change: April 1

Date Called In PCP Change: March 24
Effective Date Of PCP Change: May 1

REMEMBER: If you enroll in the plan, you must choose a Primary Care Physician (PCP) upon enrollment. If you receive care from a provider other than the PCP listed on your identification card, you will be responsible for paying the full cost of care.

The amount of premium the Getty pays for your coverage is considered taxable income to you. Please consult your tax advisor to determine the taxable status of the benefits provided to you by the Getty.

Dental & Vision Coverage

You may also elect to have dental insurance. Please click here for Dental Plan information.

If you elect medical coverage, you and your dependents will be automatically enrolled in vision coverage. There is no cost to you for vision coverage. Please click here for Vision Plan information.

Your Cost for Coverage

As an eligible individual, you contribute toward the cost of medical and dental coverage. There is no cost for vision coverage. The cost depends on how many dependents you cover. This cost is deducted from your stipend on an after-tax basis and is reflected on each check you receive. Click here for a schedule of costs. The cost of coverage is subject to change.

Enrolling in the Medical Plan: How To Elect Coverage

If you are eligible and you choose to enroll in the Getty's medical plan, you must enter your elections into the Getty's enrollment system within 31 days from the date your residency begins.

Please note: To enter your elections, you must have a local address on file with the Getty. The insurance carriers cannot accept an address outside of the United States.
