This suite of 24 colored aquatint engravings was completed in 1803 by the English printmaker and painter Thomas Daniell (1749–1840). Daniell is best known for co-creating Oriental Scenery, a six-volume book of aquatints produced over 10 years of travel in India. His work provided a new vision of the Indian subcontinent that influenced both British architectural design and decorative arts.

These prints show the excavation of Hindu structures and carvings at the archeological site of Ellora, northwest of the city of Aurangabad. These rock-cut temples, known as caves, were constructed out of the vertical face of the surrounding hills between the 6th and 8th centuries.
