This album of 137 photographic prints is part of the Getty Research Institute's collection of more than 6,000 images collected by Pierre de Gigord that document the Ottoman Empire and its transformation into the Republic of Turkey from 1852 to 1950.

Photographs from this album depict cultural and urban images of architecture and people in Constantinople, including monuments, plazas, mosques, and the ancient Walls of Constantinople from the Byzantine Empire.
